Lady Bug 101...

Buy your ladies.

Wait till dusk.
Spray sugar water on plants.
Open bag.

Speak nicely to them.

Everyone knows, ladies respond to flattery.

see.
(for those who don't know, ladybugs eat pests in your garden like aphids)
You can buy them at almost any garden centre nursery.

Oooohhhh!!!! I love them!

Around here they seem to ignore the aphids and go straight for the jugular. They hurt when they bite! (but I can take it - I'm a man...)

Maybe if you speak real nice to them, they'll even stay in your yard? It's fun releasing them and watching them hunt for food.
I just did a post that includes their life cycle.

Just the cutest little bugs I know of. They are so sweet coming out of that bag. I guess I'm lucky; they are a natural thing in my garden. They love the tomato plants.

What a lovely idea... if nothing else for the photo of all the ladies in a row!
Another friday's favorite for sure :-)

Thank you so much for the 'how-to' post! I've long heard that ladybugs will eat aphids on roses but had no idea how to release them without them flying straight off! I just noticed that my lovely roses are hole-bitten through and through, dang those aphids!

I will be trying this SOON!!!

Aawwwwwwww I LOVE LADY BUGS!!! The only bug I'm never scared of and would never, ever squish.

They're so beautiful.

i have a bag of ladybugs waiting in the fridge... the strata is planning on spraying pesticides on monday (thought those things were banned here!). even though we are asking them not to spray around our place, we are waiting a few days until the air clears before we release them.

I heard a program on CBC about the city using ladybugs to control aphids - successfully too!

These photos are beautiful. Love the last one. I just got a little country getaway myself up to Ojai. Felt so good to get out of LA- I put a little travel post up. :)

btw, I just launched my brand new blog, MOONSTRUCK EXPOSÉ!

I was formerly blogging on, I Live For It, where we followed each other.

Hope you'll come visit and follow along!

I'm of course following you from moonstruck now. ;)

Hope you've been well, babe!

I love Lady Bugs....I did not know you can buy them by the bag. We usually get a lot of them in the house every year and they like to gather in the corners at the ceiling.
